As we expand our identity to the most inclusive (we are one people!) we will grow up making choices to support all life on the planet. This begins with the understanding we are sharing one home, our common ground, and therefore we are all deeply connected. Let’s build this worldview from the earliest days of childhood and watch the positivity ripple into the future.
Music and the Mind
>> Imagine a child who has ample capacity in the auditory cortex for remembering nearly everything said in school. Musical exposure and/or training expands this capacity.
The skill is transferable to many parts of life. For an example from my own family, my son has studied music since he was 4 years old, and I fully credit this for his amazing ears! Ten years later, he is an excellent student who listens well in class and captures so much of what he hears into his long-term memory. And he still loves violin and enjoys expressing himself through music.
For our mental health, music lets our emotions and our non-verbal subconscious have a voice. Sometimes this can provide a release valve on the pressure cooker of the noggin. Many of us realized the true power of music during Covid lock-downs. It was one of the few things to lift my spirits and help me feel a bit of connection when the physical was completely disconnected from usual routines and friendly faces.
“I wanna put this song on my lullaby playlist!
